Problem of Miramar Lake

The lake represents drainage lake that receive nutrients, along with water, primarily from allochthonous point sources like an inflowing river, stream, or ditch point-loaded drainage lakes. These point-loaded drainage lakes are, for example, lowland lakes that are part of a river catchment with rivers and creeks that are nutrient rich due to urban, industrial, and agricultural activities. For example, Miramar Lake, Goa is characterized as a point-loaded drainage lake since the majority of nutrients originate from point sources (90%) and water input is mainly from river and creeks (75%).

During summers, the warmer temperatures prevent water from mixing, allowing algae to grow thicker and faster. Warmer water is easier for small organisms to move through and allows algae to float to the surface faster. Algal blooms absorb sunlight, making water even warmer and promoting more blooms. Hence this lake is heavily infested with harmful algal blooms which decrease clarity, reduce levels of light, and decrease levels of oxygen, all of which ultimately have negative consequences for organisms that live in lake which in due course will become dead lake.

Not only are the effects of eutrophication detrimental to lake biota, but they also pose a risk to human health. Further, due to eutrophication this lake releases pungent smell.

There is a heavy inflow of untreated water which brings algal blooms from St. Inez Creek to Miramar Lake every day during high tide.

Maiwir Bio-dredging methods adopted for Miramar Lake Remediation

Due to inflow of sewage in the lake from Inez canal there is increase in organic content and sludge in the lake which degrade the lake quality. Combining nutrient reduction with biomanipulation could indeed be beneficial for lake and is the way for lake restoration, especially when this lake is highly eutrophic.

M-Peroxidase Enzyme Technology

“Oxygen Reclamation” is a Unique, Smart, Water Treatment Solution that produces a Universal Enzymatic Hydroxyl Oxidizer that completely Degrades all pollutants in the lake. The reagents and enzymes reach the bottom of the water body by gravity, then start acting upon the organic matter and pollutants, converting them to simple molecules like water, carbon dioxide. While no toxic residues are formed, obnoxious odours are completely removed (not masked) and the bottom is cleaned up by digesting the organic matter. In this process the pathogenic microorganisms are completely destroyed and Heavy metals are converted to their non-toxic salts. Fluorides, chlorides, Sulfides, Ammonia, Nitrites etc., are not formed in the process.

M-Bacteria Technology

M-Bacteria Technology adopted consisted of Aerobic and Anaerobic group of multiple strains microbes that produce specific enzymes to break down compounds so that they can be ingested through the bacterial cell as nutrients. Each type of bacteria is highly specific, targeting only one type of molecule. To completely degrade a mixed waste, selected groups of complementary enzymes are produced. Most strains of our microbial technology have bacteria which produces multiple enzyme types.

M-Oxydye

M-Oxydye when used block red light from entering the water, interrupting the process of photosynthesis, and therefore inhibiting the growth of certain aquatic plants such as algae. These are found to be most effective in controlling filamentous and blue-green algae. They contain colorants that are similar to food dyes and are not considered harmful to wildlife. These are organic degradable products and harmless to fishes, flora and fauna in the lake. They also give beautiful coloration to the lake.

Aeration Technology

Oxygen is the most important constituent of water body health and is an essential element for all aquatic organisms that breathe. Therefore, there is a direct relationship between the oxygen concentrations and exchanges occurring in a water body, and the physiological status of aquatic organisms. Without oxygen at the bottom of the water body, anaerobic bacteria (those that live without oxygen) produce acids. These acids not only increase acidity but also cause a massive release of phosphorus and nitrogen, two major fertilizers, from the organic sediment and into the water column. These same anaerobic bacteria put toxic gases in the water including hydrogen sulfide (that rotten egg smell), ammonia, carbon dioxide, and methane. Our Aeration Technology helps in maintaining the oxygen levels in the lake, helps in the microbial activity, prevent Fish from dying, enhance water clarity, removes foul odours, and prevent insect proliferation.

Results of Maiwir Bio-Dredging Technology

  • Degrade of Ammonia, nitrogen, phosphorus, and other nutrients from pond/lake/drains.
  • Degrade in high COD & BOD.
  • Stabilizes oxygen level and helps to maintain Dissolve oxygen level.
  • Breakdown of organic matters and reduce bottom sludge accumulation.
  • Eliminate Bad odour of dead organic compounds and improve water clarity.
  • Helps to maintain internal ecosystem of water body.
  • Repopulate Multiple strains of bacteria natural already present in lake.
  • Enhance circulation and aeration of unaerated or poorly water body.
  • Improved fish health in clean environment and put a stop to fish kill due to eutrophication.
  • Control algal growth and algal blooms.
  • Foul order of ammonia also reduces.
  • Longer nitration effect.
  • Suppresses harmful bacterial growth.
